French Leftist Leader Mélenchon to Visit Morocco, Assess Earthquake Damage

At the invitation of various Moroccan political parties and members of the Morocco-France friendship group, led by Mohamed Zidouh, an Istiqlal parliamentary adviser, Jean-Luc Mélenchon, founder and leader of the political party La France insoumise (LFI), should soon travel to Morocco, his country of birth, for a working visit.
Jean-Luc Mélenchon is expected in Marrakech on October 4. On the agenda of this working visit: a visit to the homes and sites of the medina that were damaged by the recent earthquake in Al Haouz, meetings with Moroccan political party leaders as well as with the Morocco-France parliamentary friendship group. He will also give conferences, particularly in Casablanca on October 5. Participants will be entitled to the presentation of his new political work entitled "Do better".
The left-wing politician plans to go to Tangier, the city where he was born, on October 7. He will then head to Rabat, where he will meet with political party leaders, including those from the Party of Progress and Socialism (PPS, opposition) and the Istiqlal. His meeting with the Morocco-France friendship group, led by Mohamed Zidouh, will be marked by the presentation of the prevailing political and economic situation in the Maghreb.
Currently, tensions between France and Morocco are increasing, with the Sahara issue and France’s aid to the victims of the violent earthquake that Rabat has not yet accepted in the background. Moreover, the founder of La France insoumise, a component of the New Popular Ecological and Social Union (Nupes) and currently in the opposition, is saddened by this. Jean-Luc Mélenchon "reproaches French President Emmanuel Macron for not having sufficiently developed and consolidated political relations between France and Morocco," reports TelQuel.
