McDonald’s Faces Global Boycott Over Israel Support Claims, Morocco Branch Responds

Accused of supporting Israel against Hamas, several McDonald’s branches, including the one in Morocco, have been boycotted by consumers. Faced with the controversy, the fast food giant is trying to reassure its customers.
The Israeli franchise of McDonald’s has decided to support the country in its own way by serving free meals to Tsahal units. An act of solidarity criticized by Internet users who accuse McDonald’s of financing Israel and consequently of "endorsing their actions". This is how a call for a boycott of all McDonald’s worldwide has been launched on social networks.
Targeted by this boycott, McDonald’s Morocco has sought to reassure its customers. "The royalties that the Moroccan company FRI, the franchisee of McDonald’s in Morocco, pays to McDonald’s International, in no way serve to support any government or any political cause," the Moroccan franchise clarified, assuring its commitment to participate in national and international aid in favor of the Palestinians.
The franchises in Kuwait or Oman, for their part, have made donations to the Palestinians and specified that the initiative of the Israeli franchise was personal. "What the license holder in Israel did was an individual and private act," the McDonald’s Oman franchisee said in a post on X (formerly Twitter).
Faced with the controversy, and following the tags made on the facades of the fast food restaurant in Lyon on October 31, McDonald’s France issued a statement in which it swears "not to finance or support any government involved in this conflict." "We are deeply troubled by the misinformation and inaccuracies concerning our position on the conflict in the Middle East," the French franchise said.
