Mazraoui injury leaves Manchester United sweating ahead of Tottenham clash

It all came down to a tackle near the touchline. On September 29, against Lesotho, Noussair Mazraoui won the ball but stayed down, holding his lower back. His teammates immediately called for the medical staff. In the 69th minute, the Moroccan defender had to make way for Achraf Hakimi. His departure is now a source of concern for Manchester United.

The 28-year-old had made a strong start to his time with the Atlas Lions. A few days earlier, he had scored in the 2-0 win over Gabon. Against Lesotho, who also lost 2-0, his performance was cut short by the pain he suffered during a challenge.

Mazraoui was then rested by the Moroccan staff. After missing the next team training session, he left the camp before the match against Mali to return to his English club.

In an analysis published on October 8, The Guardian names the Moroccan among the internationals whose fitness problems are complicating the Premier League’s return. The British newspaper particularly highlights Manchester United’s difficulties, with several players already unavailable.

For Michael Carrick, Mazraoui is not the only concern. Patrick Dorgu, another option on the left, injured his hamstring while on international duty with Denmark. His absence limits the Manchester United manager’s options for rotation.

The Moroccan is a valuable option precisely because of his versatility. Able to play on either the right or left of the defence, he can replace both Diogo Dalot and Luke Shaw. A prolonged absence would make team selection even more difficult, with several key players already dealing with fitness problems.
