Massive Travel Scam in Morocco: Woman Arrested for Defrauding Tourists of Over $100,000

A woman was arrested on Monday in Tétouan for her alleged involvement in a large-scale scam. She is said to have victimized dozens of people from whom she managed to collect more than one million dirhams.
The accused was arrested after several victims filed complaints against her with the Tétouan court prosecutor’s office. The woman defrauded her victims who had made bookings with her fictitious travel agency.
Many victims discovered the deception after finding themselves stranded outside of Morocco. Some of them said they had lost all their savings planned for a summer vacation or performing the Umrah rites.
According to the victims, this is the largest tourist scam recorded in Tétouan. The woman managed to extort more than one million dirhams from them.
