Facebook Scammer Dupes Dozens in Casablanca Home Renovation Scheme

An individual has scammed dozens of Casablanca residents via Facebook. He made them believe he was the manager of a home renovation company.
The victims of this 2.0 fraud live in the cities of Casablanca and El Jadida. They have filed a series of complaints against the alleged scammer, and the king’s prosecutor near the Ain Sebaa court is already conducting an investigation, reports Al Massae.
According to the accusation, the individual was posing as the manager of a company specializing in renovation work and interior decoration. His modus operandi was to post ads on the internet. Interested people requested his services. He demanded an advance from them. Some paid up to 80,000 dirhams as an advance.
Once the advances were received, he went to his clients’ homes. Instead of carrying out renovation work, he stole valuable equipment with the complicity of other individuals. Before the victims could report the deception and the theft, the alleged scammer had already fled.
He is currently the subject of a nationwide arrest warrant.
