Hacker Sentenced to 18 Months for $45,000 Royal Air Maroc Fraud Scheme

The hacker who exploited the computer expertise of his accomplice to defraud Royal Air Maroc (RAM) and other commercial companies with the hacked codes of bank cards was sentenced to 18 months in prison. This is the verdict handed down by the court of first instance in El Jadida.

The accused is accused of having committed 67 criminal operations through the purchase of airline tickets with the hacked codes of bank cards, reports Assabah. In his thirties, the hacker is a man from Fez, who was in the habit of hacking the data of foreign banks that he used in operations to acquire services and products sold by airlines. He caused financial damage of around 450,000 dirhams to Royal Air Maroc. Other commercial companies have also been victims of this vast fraud.

According to sources close to the investigation, the victims of this fraud filed a complaint with the public prosecutor’s office. The investigation was then entrusted to the cybercrime unit. The investigators managed to locate and arrest the main suspect. A national arrest warrant has been issued against one of his accomplices.

During the remote trial, the accused maintained his initial statements but irrefutable evidence confirmed his involvement in this case of fraud and attack on the electronic data processing systems of bank accounts.

The El Jadida police services are continuing the investigations in order to elucidate this case, to locate other accomplices and to verify whether the accused had acted on behalf of a third party.
