Massive Summer Migration: Algeciras Port Launches Operation Marhaba 2025 for Moroccan Exodus

The Port Authority of the Bay of Algeciras (APBA) activated this Friday the special device for the Operation Paso del Estrecho (OPE) or Marhaba 2025, marking the return of Moroccans from Europe to Morocco during the summer.
More than 700 people have been mobilized at the ports of Algeciras and Tarifa to facilitate the transit of MREs. The system provides for new boarding conditions, waiting areas and a dedicated lane for residents destined for Ceuta during the weekends of July. Thus, all the interior pre-boarding areas, such as those of La Lonja and Galera, will be open, and the outdoor spaces will be reorganized. The area occupied by the fairground will serve as a waiting area from July 2, and the area next to Avenida Virgen del Carmen will continue to function as a parking lot, according to Ceuta actualidad.
This year, the APBA will require closed tickets before access to the ports. Tickets are available online and at approved sales outlets in the service areas. To enter the port of Algeciras, it is recommended to use the north branch (N-357), as the south entrance is under construction. In addition, new deadlines are set for vehicle access to the port: six hours in advance for the Algeciras-Ceuta and Algeciras-Tanger Med lines, and two hours for the Tarifa-Tanger Ville line, operated by AML and Balearia. As for the port of Tarifa, it will not apply any restrictions on days of high traffic.
The system also provides for covered waiting areas, with benches and toilets, as well as the distribution of water and the dissemination of updated information in Spanish, English and French on schedules, boarding, mooring positions and ship characteristics. To streamline urban traffic during the July weekends, the APBA plans to set up a dedicated lane exclusively for residents destined for Ceuta. It will operate from Friday at 2:00 pm to the same time on Monday. It is operational as of this weekend.
