Ferry Companies Announce 32-Euro Tickets for Algeciras-Tanger Med Route

The five shipping companies that will provide the link to Tanger Med from the ports of Algeciras and Tarifa on Tuesday, namely Trasmediterránea, Baleària, FRS, Africa Morocco Link (AML) and Inter Shipping, are offering tickets starting at 32 euros to travelers, according to El Español.

For this line, Baleària offers 32.25 euros while at Trasmediterránea, the ticket costs 33.80 euros. FRS, on the other hand, has not yet announced the price of the ticket for the daily Tarifa-Tangier City and Algeciras-Tanger Med routes. The ticket for a passenger with a vehicle starts at 49.50 euros at Baleària. Travelers will have to present a vaccination passport or a PCR test dated 72 hours before boarding.

The resumption of maritime links is one of the major fallouts from Pedro Sanchez’s visit to Rabat, after declaring his support for Morocco’s autonomy plan for the Sahara. On Friday, the Moroccan merchant navy authorized shipping companies to immediately resume links with the ports of Tanger-Med, Tanger-Ville, Nador and Al Hoceima.

After this announcement, the Port Authority of the Bay of Algeciras (APBA) met with the shipping companies on Monday and agreed to resume the ferries as of this Tuesday. Passengers with a vehicle will have to wait until next Monday. In addition, the resumption of the links will allow the holding of the Marhaba Operation, after two consecutive years of cancellation (2020 and 2021) where Moroccans in Europe transited through the ports of Sète in France and Genoa in Italy to reach the kingdom.
