Massive Slum Clearance in Salé: Hundreds of Families Relocated in Urban Renewal Effort

Douar Brahma, one of the largest slums in Salé, is in the process of being evacuated. The local authorities are proceeding with the rehousing of the populations.
After Karyan El Ouad, Sehb El Caïd and Ras El Ma, the local authorities have set their sights on Douar Brahma, which houses many shacks, in which hundreds of underprivileged families live, reports Al Akhbar.
As part of the operation that began a few weeks ago, these families are in the process of being rehoused. For the occasion, two tents have been set up to welcome them and initiate the procedures, the newspaper points out, adding that the city has promised to resolve the outstanding issues, simplify the administrative procedures and provide lasting support to quickly resolve complaints and conflicts.
Furthermore, the local authorities have proceeded to dismantle several slums after settling the files of their inhabitants. The latter have left their shacks to rent small apartments in other neighborhoods of the city.
A draw will soon be held to allow the people concerned to benefit from plots of land in Bouknadel. This operation continues, the newspaper reports. Scheduled before the end of February, this program would allow the inhabitants to benefit from plots of land between 60 and 70 m² for each beneficiary family.
