Massive Fire Destroys 20 Hectares of Palm Trees in Zagora Oasis Amid Heatwave

A major fire spanning 3 kilometers has ravaged more than 20 hectares of palm trees. The fire broke out on Sunday at 10 a.m. in an oasis in the city of Zagora.
The firefighting teams of Zagora and Ouarzazate deployed significant resources to try to contain this violent fire. Several hours after the start of the fire, the rescue teams were still on site.
The intense heat wave prevailing in the region and the hot winds coming from the south (chergui) contributed to fanning the fire, the flames of which were spreading at high speed, reports the site zagoranews.
Several senior officials went to the scene, including the governor of the city, Fouad Hajji, and the provincial commander of the Royal Gendarmerie.
