Marseille’s Ounahi Transfer Saga: Top Clubs Clash Over Moroccan Midfield Star
The future of Azzedine Ounahi at Olympique de Marseille remains uncertain. While the Phocaean club had reached an agreement with Panathinaikos for the transfer of the midfielder, the Moroccan player’s willingness now constitutes the main obstacle to the completion of this operation. A situation that forces the various parties to explore other options, so far without success.
The management of OM and the Greek club had nevertheless managed to agree on the terms of a transfer, following a proposal deemed satisfactory by Marseille. However, Azzedine Ounahi refused to give his agreement for a return to the Greek championship. At the age of 25, the Moroccan international prioritizes the continuation of his career in one of the five major European championships, a sporting project that he considers a priority.
This refusal complicates the management of his case for OM, especially since the player, under contract until June 2027, does not seem to be part of the plans of the new coach, Roberto De Zerbi, making his departure during this transfer window almost certain. Another track, leading to the Spanish club Girona, has been explored. This destination would be the player’s preference, but it is facing financial difficulties.
At the moment, the Girona club would not be able to meet Ounahi’s salary demands, nor to match the transfer fee expected by Olympique de Marseille. Negotiations are ongoing, but in the absence of economic concessions, the case remains at an impasse, leaving the future of the midfielder in suspense.
