Moroccan Star Ounahi Seals €6M Move to Girona, Ending Marseille Stint

Olympique de Marseille and Girona have finalized the transfer of Moroccan international midfielder Azzedine Ounahi. The player has signed a five-season contract with the Catalan club, until June 2030.
According to the terms of the agreement, the operation brings in 6 million euros for OM, which has also negotiated a 30% interest on a future resale of the player. This transaction formalizes the definitive departure of the 24-year-old midfielder, who has 40 caps and 7 goals with the Moroccan national team.
This transfer puts an end to a mixed spell at Marseille for the player revealed during the 2022 World Cup. Recruited in January 2023 in the wake of the competition, Azzedine Ounahi failed to establish himself as a regular under the Marseille jersey, playing 44 games in a year and a half for 3 goals scored. Last season, he had been loaned to Panathinaikos, where his statistical performances were more pronounced with 5 goals and 7 assists.
To officially announce his arrival, the Girona club, 17th in the last Liga championship, referred to a press conference by Luis Enrique who, as Spain’s coach, had exclaimed about him after their elimination against Morocco: "My God, but where does this boy come from?". In Catalonia, Ounahi will notably play alongside 2018 World Cup champion Thomas Lemar, on loan from Atlético de Madrid.
