Marrakech University Officials Accused of Embezzlement and Document Destruction

Sunday 26 May 2019, by Kamal

A complaint for embezzlement of funds and destruction of official documents has been filed against the rector of the Cadi Ayyad University in Marrakech, his general secretary, the dean of the Faculty of Languages, the head of the budget and procurement department, as well as four vice-deans.

According to the National League for Human Rights, cited by Akhbarona, the dean of the Faculty of Languages is accused of having diverted, for his own account, scholarships dedicated to continuing education worth 200,000 dirhams. Having later submitted his resignation, the same source adds that he was also involved, with the complicity of the rector, in the illegal construction of a language center on state-owned land, although the project was not included in the University’s program.

In the same context, the head of the budget and procurement department at the Cadi Ayyad University was also implicated in this case, for having devoted a significant budget to the informal construction of this center.

In addition, the general secretary of the University has also been summoned, for having benefited from material advantages, in particular the creation of several budgetary positions in her favor, as a professor at the Faculty of Taroudant, then at the Faculty of Safi before being transferred to the Faculty of Science in Marrakech. Although she has never held any of the positions mentioned, she continues to receive the salaries.
