Morocco to Build Medical School and University Hospital in Western Sahara City

As part of the development of the Moroccan Sahara, the Government plans to build a medical school and a university hospital in Laayoune.
After the Moroccan Sahara urbanization project, through the construction of some social housing and functions, respectively, for the surrounding inhabitants and the military, the Moroccan Government is also committed to starting the construction of a medical school and a university hospital. These initiatives, according to Le360.ma, follow Morocco’s commitment to mark its presence on its territory. In addition to these planned projects for the region, other major achievements will soon be launched as part of the implementation of the new Development Program.
As for the construction of the medical school in Laayoune, supervised by the Ministry of Equipment, a budget of 218,558,000 dirhams has been allocated. The opening of the bids for the call for tenders is announced for September 30, 2019, at the headquarters of the Provincial Directorate of Equipment in Laayoune.
Thanks to this faculty which will depend on the Ibn Zohr University, students from the Moroccan Sahara will no longer have to travel to Agadir or other cities, estimates the same media. This establishment will give new impetus to the region by providing human resources to fill the current deficit, pending the construction of health facilities that will accompany the training of students.
In this regard, the Government is anticipating by announcing the construction of the first university hospital, with a capacity of 500 beds and meeting international standards. The cost of this health facility is estimated at 1.2 billion dirhams. The budget allocated to the realization of this new model of development of the southern provinces is estimated at 77 billion dirhams. This investment plans to double the local gross domestic product (GDP) and create 120,000 jobs.
