Marrakech Tourism Soars: Nearly 3 Million Visitors in 2019, Outpacing Global Growth

3 million tourists of all nationalities crossed the gates of the city of Marrakech in 2019. According to data published by the Regional Tourism Council (CRT), this represents a growth rate of 8% compared to 2018.
With this figure, Marrakech has just achieved a performance that represents twice the average growth rate of global tourism, according to statistics from the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO). The CRT announced this after the meeting of its executive committee, held earlier this week in Marrakech.
This was a meeting attended by the President of the CRT, Hamid Bentahar, the Director General of the ONMT, Adel El Fakir, the Presidents of the Provincial Tourism Councils under the Marrakech-Safi region, as well as other key players in the tourism sector.
In addition to the presentation of the 2020 action plan, the discussions focused on various issues related to the sector. Marrakech recorded throughout 2018 more than 8 million tourist nights, with an occupancy rate of 61%.
The CRT is already thinking about how to beat the 2019 record for an even more flourishing season.
