Marrakech Restaurant Closures Dash Tourism Recovery Hopes Amid COVID-19 Surge

The announcement of the total closure of restaurants in Marrakech ruins the hopes of tourism operators who were counting on the year-end holiday period to regain financial health.
The decision to close restaurants is a blow to restaurateurs in the ochre city, as well as other surveyed tourism promoters, reports Assabah. Their sector has been hit hard by the health crisis related to Covid-19, and they were expecting to achieve very good sales figures in the very near future. An optimism based on bookings that were soaring.
Based on the recommendations of the scientific and technical committee, the government took new restrictive measures on Monday to curb the spread of the coronavirus. Among these measures, which came into effect on Wednesday, there is a night curfew nationwide from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m., as well as the total closure of restaurants in Casablanca, Marrakech, Agadir and Tangier.
