Marrakech Residents Seek Refuge in Parks as Temperatures Soar to 48°C

Faced with the heat wave (up to 48°C) hitting Marrakech, the inhabitants are storming the green spaces and other parks in search of freshness.
In Marrakech, the inhabitants are trying to protect themselves from the heat during this heat wave period. Temperatures sometimes reach 48°C. Thus, they have reconnected with local ancestral traditions. Every evening, they invade the various green spaces and squares where they spend night-time moments of joy and relaxation. They enjoy mint tea and hearty dishes, including "Tanjiya", reports the newspaper L’Opinion.
For some environmental specialists in Marrakech, the green spaces "make the city’s reputation and its influence at the national and international level, which requires more efforts to preserve these spaces and ensure their permanent maintenance." They add that the local authorities and the departments concerned "have invested a lot in gardens and public squares, in particular through the planting of palm trees, roses and other plant species."
