Marrakech Residents Raise Alarm Over Illicit Activities in Beauty Salons

The people of Marrakech are questioning the legality of the licenses granted to the beauty salons that are proliferating in the city and most of the time turn into high-end prostitution venues, calling on the local authorities to take responsibility and strengthen controls in order to put an end to these practices.

The application and issuance of licenses for these massage and spa salons is carried out in accordance with the prevailing conditions via a dedicated electronic portal, said an official source to Kech24, adding that only two or three licenses have been issued for this type of establishment in the Guéliz district since the installation of the municipal council.

In other cities, the same concerns arise. In a statement to the press, the president of the Maârif district (Casablanca) supported that the competent authorities continue to ensure continuous monitoring of beauty salons, informing that 16 salons located in the Anfa prefecture have had their licenses withdrawn.

Similarly, the local authorities of Tangier have decided to prohibit the granting of licenses to salons located in apartments. In a circular addressed to the presidents of the city’s districts, the prefecture has authorized the issuance of licenses only to centers located in commercial or professional premises.
