Morocco’s Saïdia Beach Faces Crackdown on Illegal Vendors and Public Space Violations

The local authorities of the city of Saïdia threaten to revoke the licenses of merchants who create anarchy and to apply the law to usurpers of the public domain on the city’s beach.
During a meeting with the owners of commercial projects and parasol managers on the Saïdia beach last week, the city’s pasha was firm on the need to comply with the law and pay the rental obligations to the municipal council. He also warned them against chaos and the illegitimate appropriation of state property. The authorities will intervene in case of violation of the law, he warns. The official also urged merchants to apply the regulations imposed by the specifications they will sign before obtaining the licenses. The licenses will be governed by a specification that each person must respect, and in case of non-compliance, they will be immediately revoked, he said.
Due to the chaos and occupation of the Saïdia beach by people working in the rental of parasols and jet skis, as well as exorbitant rates for services, in cafes or restaurants, each summer season, the Saïdia authorities have decided to ban licenses for water sports, including jet skis. Several fatal accidents have also been recorded during the previous summer seasons on this beach.
