Morocco's Hairdressers Swamped as Eid al-Fitr Approaches

In Morocco, hairdressing salons are regaining affluence during this end of Ramadan period. Moroccans are celebrating Eid El Fitr this Wednesday, April 10.

"Hairdressing salons, for men and women, are experiencing a dense influx of citizens at this time, and on the eve of each religious occasion, such as Eid al-Fitr, especially the salons located in popular neighborhoods, whose owners are forced to work until late hours to meet the strong demand," said the president of the National Union of Hairdressing in Morocco to Hespress. According to his explanations, the influx in the salons "has slightly decreased during the first days of the month of Ramadan, due to the nature of this sacred month, but the last days of it, as is the custom every year, experience a positive dynamic, which is reflected in the economic situation of professionals who see it as an opportunity to improve their income".

How do hairdressers manage these days of high affluence? They opt for advance planning. "Salon owners work to avoid congestion scenes by organizing their work through a pre-booking system," he further explained. They also call on new graduates from hairdressing and beauty schools. "Some salon owners also call on the services of these graduates to ease the pressure on them and follow this massive influx on the eve of Eid al-Fitr," he noted. Other graduates, on the other hand, take advantage of these days of high affluence to offer their services at home. "The approach of religious holidays, whether Eid al-Fitr or Eid al-Adha, not only stimulates the activity of salon owners, but also that of some new graduates from hairdressing and beauty schools, who rush during this period to offer their services to citizens at home, pending the opening of their own salons or obtaining job contracts abroad, thus ensuring a temporary source of income, which is positive and also eases the burdens on their families during these occasions".
