Marrakech Police Crackdown: 93 Arrested, 23 Vehicles Seized in Traffic Safety Operation

The Marrakech police prefecture carried out extensive security operations over the past weekend to combat dangerous driving on the road and violations of the Highway Code. In total, 93 people were arrested and 23 vehicles seized. Moroccans residing abroad (MREs) are said to have been particularly targeted.

These operations, carried out on the night of August 24 to 25, aim to ensure the safety of people and property and to repress violations of the Highway Code. They resulted in the arrest of 93 people, accused of disturbing public order and wanted for various crimes and offenses, as well as the seizure of 23 vehicles for reckless driving.

On the same night, the traffic officers of the Marrakech police prefecture arrested four drivers for lack of a license, fined 176 cyclists for not wearing a helmet, and issued tickets against 365 users who violated the Highway Code.

These operations, which will continue, mobilized all the national security services of Marrakech, including the judicial police, the urban police, the traffic police, the regular units, the various security zones and the police services.

In recent weeks, several voices had been raised in Marrakech, notably on social networks, accusing Moroccans residing abroad, very numerous in visiting the ochre city, of not respecting the Highway Code and engaging in dangerous driving.
