Marrakech Police Arrest 13 International Fugitives Amid 60,000 Annual Detentions

During the period from May 16, 2018 to May 16, 2019, the security services of the Marrakech police prefecture arrested 13 people wanted internationally and executed 16 international arrest warrants.

The celebration of the 63rd anniversary of the creation of the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN) was an opportunity for the Prefect of Police of Marrakech, Said El Aloua, to take stock of all the operations to the credit of the security services.

To stick to the data presented by the police prefect, "some 61,278 people were brought before the courts during the same period, including 13,484 people involved in cases affecting persons and 9,188 affecting property." During this same period, "the security services also carried out 191,325 identity checks on suspicious persons, including 16,741 persons wanted for various crimes and offenses, including 8,158 persons wanted at the national level and 34,580 persons arrested in flagrante delicto and 389 persons in possession of white weapons under suspicious conditions."

The police services also assisted 11,985 people in a situation of begging or on the street or sick in public, in order to transfer them to specialized social and health facilities. Added to this are the actions taken to fight the scourge of drugs. Here, 19,214 people involved in drug trafficking cases were arrested and 245.153 kg of cannabis resin, 471.83 kg of cannabis, 119.642 kg of contraband tobacco, 304 g of hard drugs (cocaine), as well as 9,681 psychotropic tablets were seized.

In addition, actions have also been taken to secure and protect the perimeters of school establishments, through the creation of cells in the 04 police districts for the first time in Marrakech. As for road traffic offenses, the security services carried out 39,371 control operations and drew up reports against 13,279 cars and motorcycles, the impounding of 5,696 cars and motorcycles, while 20,135 amicable fines were recorded.
