Marrakech Conference Explores Morocco’s Rich Jewish Heritage and Cultural Openness

On February 6, 2020, a conference on Moroccan Jewish heritage will be held in Marrakech. This meeting will be attended by several personalities from civil society and the academic community.
This major meeting aims to highlight "the Moroccan exception, the openness of the Moroccan people, through its history, to other religions, particularly Judaism, and the scope of the material and immaterial Judeo-Moroccan heritage."
Indeed, Moroccan Jewish culture has strongly marked the life of the kingdom. It has been enriched by enormous "religious, artistic, geographical, and linguistic influences," it is stated in a press release issued by the organizers. And to add that even today, the signs of this mixing have enriched the common cultural heritage of the two communities and are remarkable in several fields, including architecture, crafts, music, and cuisine, to name but a few.
In order to perpetuate this rich heritage, several cultural and media players, as well as the authorities and institutions, are multiplying reflections and initiatives; hence this conference, scheduled to be held in the ochre city.
In the front row, we will find, among others, for the animation of this meeting, Jacky Kadoch, the president of the Jewish community of Marrakech-Safi, and Ibtissam Haddaji, a doctoral researcher at the Limpact laboratory of the Faculty of Letters and Humanities of Marrakech.
