Marrakech Closes Parks as COVID-19 Cases Surge, Hospitals Reach Capacity

Faced with the resurgence of new cases due to the coronavirus, the local authorities of the city of Marrakech have taken new measures. In this regard, the monitoring committee of the prefecture of Marrakech announced, on Friday, the closure of all green spaces.

As soon as the decision was made, the local authorities at the level of the different districts of Marrakech did not hesitate to apply the measure. The first users who tried to enter the green spaces were immediately prevented from doing so. They were informed of the reasons behind this decision.

According to Hespress, this decision comes due to the saturation of the hospitals dedicated to Covid-19 patients. For the time being, these hospital establishments are facing a severe shortage of beds and sufficient medical staff.

A few days ago, the governor of the province of Al Haouz prohibited the access of the people of Marrakech to the resorts of the High Atlas to counter the Covid-19 pandemic. The second most infected region, Marrakech has recorded 4,869 contaminations since early March. It recorded 354 new positive cases on Saturday.
