Morocco Imposes Lockdown on Khénifra and M’rirt as COVID-19 Cases Surge

From this Sunday, September 6 at noon, any movement to and from the cities of Khénifra and M’rirt is strictly prohibited. This is the decision taken by the local authorities of the province of Khénifra, due to the resurgence of the number of positive cases of coronavirus.
According to a source at the prefecture of the province of Khénifra, this decision, which emanates from the Provincial Coordination Post (PCP) in charge of managing the Covid-19 pandemic, excludes people with an "exceptional travel authorization issued by the competent local authorities", reports La Map. And to add that the sectors of the transport of goods, basic products and services, professional travel or those justified by extreme necessity, as well as travel for humanitarian reasons or related to the school and university return for students, are not affected by this measure.
The decision of the Provincial Coordination Post also targets public transport linking the city of Khenifra and M’rirt on the one hand, and linking the two municipalities to the other cities of the province, which will be suspended. But also, the cafes and restaurants of the two cities will be closed at 10 p.m. In addition, access will be prohibited to green spaces and public spaces beyond 10 p.m., while the weekly Souk of Ahtab in the city of Khénifra as well as the livestock markets of the two cities will be closed.
In order to "curb the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic", all citizens of the two cities concerned are urged by the local authorities to respect these precautionary measures as well as the barrier gestures while showing responsibility, under penalty of deterrent sanctions in accordance with the legislation in force.
