Marrakech Associations Plea to King Mohammed VI as City Faces Crisis Amid Corruption Claims

Marrakech is in the grip of a slow death. The city has been abandoned to the hands of a devastating epidemic and "corrupt individuals". This is the distress call launched by some 400 associations to King Mohammed VI, in the hope of reviving the city.
Outraged by the "injustice, marginalization and all forms of corruption" rampant in the city, Marrakech civil society has risen up against what it calls the "endemic corruption and corrupt individuals who take advantage of the state of emergency to do business with the misery and tragedies of the population".
The administrations and public institutions are distinguished by a general paralysis, much to the dismay of the population, while the entire health system is at risk of collapsing at any moment, despite the sacrifices of the medical staff, the associations deplore.
"The city is suffocating and groaning under the weight of the epidemic that has spread like wildfire, taking away the joy of living of your subjects, leaving only despair and panic on the faces. While death threatens them, the sick are crowded in the hospital corridors and some of them still struggle to find a place in the hospital"..., the activist associations point out.
To save the ochre city from a health, economic and social disaster, the associations have called for determining the responsibilities of each and acting quickly before the situation in Marrakech deteriorates further. "How is it that the elected officials in charge accumulate positions, gains and wealth from public money and let the city collapse in the face of the deadly epidemic," they wonder.
