Marrakech: Man arrested after violent theft of a foreign tourist in the medina
The Marrakech police arrested a 29-year-old man on Tuesday, following the release of a video showing the theft of a foreign tourist in the medina. The investigation allowed the recovery of the stolen object and revealed that one of the suspected accomplices was already in custody for another case.
The police officers proceeded with the arrest in the afternoon. The suspect was apprehended in flagrante delicto of possession of the victim’s stolen mobile phone. This intervention follows the opening of a judicial investigation triggered by the images circulating on social networks, where two individuals on a motorcycle are seen committing a violent theft on a foreign tourist.
The investigations made it possible to identify the two other people involved in the theft. The checks showed that the second suspect is currently detained by the services of the Royal Gendarmerie on the outskirts of Marrakech, as part of a separate procedure related to a theft.
Coordination is underway with the Gendarmerie to further investigate this second individual. At the same time, the search continues to locate the third suspect, whose full identity has been established. The defendant arrested on Tuesday was placed in custody under the supervision of the competent public prosecutor’s office.
