Manchester United’s Amrabat Shows Versatility in Cup Win Over Crystal Palace

Moroccan midfielder Sofyan Amrabat says he is ready to help Manchester United in multiple positions. He played left-back for his first start with the club in the 3-0 win over Crystal Palace on Tuesday.
Moroccan international Sofyan Amrabat, who made his debut with Manchester United on Saturday in the Red Devils’ 1-0 win over Burnley, was named in the starting lineup on Tuesday for the match against Crystal Palace (3-0), in the 16th round of the League Cup. His coach Erik ten Hag asked him to play on the left flank (left-back). This did not embarrass the 27-year-old player. "I told the manager that I will play wherever you need me, wherever the team needs me, even as a goalkeeper," he told Sky Sports.

Amrabat says he likes to have the ball all the time. "Of course, I’m not a natural left-back, but I’m trying to give the team additional options. [...] I’ll play anywhere I can help the team. Today I was a left-back, but I had a free role and I played a lot in midfield. It was good," he rejoiced, adding that it was "a perfect evening" and that his teammates and he played very well. The Atlas Lion is happy to live his childhood dream. "Since my childhood, I’ve worked for this. It’s incredible to play here, the stadium is full on a Tuesday, it’s fantastic."
Amrabat joined the English club on loan from ACF Fiorentina until 2024 for a fee of 10 million euros with a purchase option of 21.5 million pounds.
