Man to Face Trial for Alleged Rape of Italian Tourist in El Jadida, Morocco

The events took place one night at the accused’s home in El Jadida. The Italian national had an argument with a man she had met on social media and who had invited her to come to Morocco. That day, the two lovers were in a cafe before an argument broke out between them. The young woman had to leave the place. She was wandering in the streets of the city when she met another man. The latter invited her to continue the evening at his place to have a drink, which she accepted.

While the young woman was about to leave the host’s home after this well-watered evening, he blocked her way by threatening her with the shard of a broken bottle before physically assaulting and raping her, reports Assabah. Once the crime was committed, he fled. Alerted, the elements of the judicial police went to the scene. On their arrival, the victim was in a pitiful state. Her face and certain parts of her body were covered with bruises. Admitted to a hospital, she received appropriate care.

During her hearing, the Italian national provided useful information to the investigators who managed to apprehend the suspect. What next? The judicial police of Sidi Bennour referred him to the Attorney General of the King near the Court of Appeal of El Jadida. He will have to appear before the criminal chamber of this court on January 25, 2022.
