Mali Advances to U23 AFCON Semi-Finals, Set to Face Host Morocco

The Malian under-23 football team defeated the Nigerien team 2-0 on Saturday evening, at the Prince Moulay Abdellah sports complex in Rabat.
This victory, at the end of the third day of group B of the U23 AFCON, was made possible thanks to the players Mamadou Sangaré, who scored in the 49th minute on a penalty, and Cheickna Doumbia, who added another goal in the 90th minute.
This victory allowed Mali to finish second in group B with 6 points, paving the way for a semi-final against Morocco next Tuesday. At the same time, Egypt secured first place in the group, with 7 points, thanks to its 2-0 victory over Gabon, with goals from Mahmoud Saber in the 82nd minute and Oussama Fissal in stoppage time in the 92nd minute. Gabon and Niger, having finished with 0 and 4 points respectively, are eliminated from the competition.
As for the upcoming matches, Egypt will face Guinea in the semi-finals. The top three teams in the 2023 edition of the AFCON will qualify for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. The fourth-placed team will have to play an intercontinental playoff against an Asian team to try to secure its place.
