Liverpool Star Mohamed Salah Faces Backlash Over Christmas Family Photo

The publication of a photo showing the Egyptian star Mohamed Salah, a Muslim, and his family celebrating Christmas has provoked the anger of many Muslim Internet users on Twitter.
In this photo posted on Christmas Eve, the Liverpool player posed with his wife and two daughters in front of their Christmas tree. All in pajamas in the colors of the holiday, they are seen opening their gifts. Mohamed’s publication has sparked strong reactions from Muslim Internet users. The comments follow one another.
"Today you are Christian and tomorrow you are Muslim. You will have to explain this to your creator," writes an Internet user in English. "I hope you’re ashamed of yourself," comments a Muslim woman. Faced with this flood of hatred, other Internet users have defended the player. "I live in Dubai and [there are] Christmas trees in all shopping malls, Christmas songs in all stores, Christmas markets everywhere and it’s in a Muslim country. Imagine that but 100 times in the UK. Is he really going to deprive his daughter?" wonders an Internet user.
"The hatred that Mohamed Salah is the target of from a large number of Muslims once again shows that there is often in Islam a kind of hatred towards anything that is not strictly Muslim. What a sadness!" deplores another Internet user. "These are not Muslims but Islamists. Huge difference between Islamists and Muslims. Islamists whose ideology is deadly, although inspired by Islam, are all potential terrorists, on the other hand Muslims do not engage in politics and preach peace," explains a Muslim.
