Leeds United Pauses Pursuit of World Cup Star Azzedine Ounahi Amid Club Evaluation

The Leeds United club has put on hold the negotiations to recruit the Moroccan midfielder Azzedine Ounahi as the leaders are evaluating their squad and the future of their coach Jesse Marsch following the defeat against Aston Villa last Friday.
Leeds recently agreed to pay £35.5 million to sign Georginio Rutter from Hoffenheim and have also signed central defender Max Wober from RB Salzburg. However, the club has decided to wait before continuing an operation for Ounahi, who is of interest to Napoli and Leicester.
Ounahi was one of the key players for Morocco at the World Cup, playing six of his team’s seven matches in Qatar. He had formed a formidable midfield duo with Sofyan Amrabat and was expected to join Leeds this season to help them avoid relegation.
Leeds have not won any of their last five league matches and are currently just two points above the relegation zone. Marsch has maintained an optimistic discourse after his latest defeat, but he has little time left to improve the results. The upcoming matches against Cardiff in the FA Cup and Brentford in the league could be decisive for Marsch’s future at the helm of the team.
