US-Led ’African Lion 2022’ Military Exercise Spans 4 African Nations

The US Africa Command provides details on the Moroccan-American military exercise African Lion 2022, which involves soldiers from the American, European and African continents. The military maneuvers are organized in Morocco, Tunisia, Senegal and Ghana.
In Morocco, African Lion 2022 will take place from June 20 to July 1, 2022 in Kenitra, Agadir, Taroudant, Tan Tan and Mahbès. According to the US Defense Visual Information Distribution Service (Dvids), this military exercise aimed at strengthening interoperability between nations required months of preparation to ensure operations and the implementation of the Covid-19 prevention health protocol.
With a budget of $36 million, African Lion 2022 brings together 7,500 military personnel from Brazil, Chad, France, Italy, the Netherlands, Spain and the United Kingdom, among others. On the program: live-fire exercises and military and air maneuvers, a joint forced entry with paratroopers during a field training exercise, as well as a chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear response exercise. This military exercise led by US Army Southern European Task Force mobilizes 80 support aircraft, two naval forces and a delegation of 28 international observers.
