Israeli Military Observers Join US-Morocco ’African Lion’ Exercise for First Time

Israelis were among the twenty military observers from partner countries who participated in the Moroccan-American military exercise African Lion 2022 in Morocco. A first.
Three military observers participated in exercises in Morocco this week, the Israeli Ministry of Defense said. The latter considers this participation as a sign of the warming of relations between the kingdom and Israel, reports Reuters. This was the first participation of Israeli military observers in an exercise in Morocco.
"The ’African Lion 2022’ exercise follows the participation of a Moroccan anti-terrorist unit in a multinational exercise in Israel last week," the ministry also said. This week’s exercise also involved US forces.
During a working visit to Morocco in late November 2021, the Israeli Minister of Defense, Benny Gantz, and his Moroccan counterpart, Abdellatif Loudiyi, had signed several agreements aimed at strengthening military cooperation between the two countries.
