Lebanon’s President Lauds Morocco’s Pivotal Role in Arab Reconciliation and Lebanese Stability

On a state visit to Algiers, Joseph Aoun, the President of Lebanon, thanked Morocco for its constant support in stabilizing his country and for its historic role in the Arab reconciliation agreements.
Speaking at a joint press conference with his Algerian counterpart, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, the Lebanese president highlighted "the eminent role of Morocco, a brotherly country, and its positions of support for Lebanon as well as its constant presence in Arab efforts to help [his] country overcome its crises".
Joseph Aoun also recalled "Rabat’s contribution within the Supreme Arab Commission that led to the adoption of the Taif Agreement in Saudi Arabia". This text had marked the end of the Lebanese civil war in 1989.
The Lebanese head of state was keen to emphasize that his country "does not interfere in the internal affairs of its Arab brother states". During this state visit to Algeria, Joseph Aoun received the highest Algerian presidential distinction, and visited, among other places, the Notre-Dame d’Afrique Cathedral where he exchanged with representatives of the Christian community in Algeria.
