US Leads Surge in Moroccan Handicraft Exports, Driving 39% Growth

The market for Moroccan handicraft products continues to gain popularity abroad. Exports have experienced a staggering growth of 39% in January 2023, generating revenues of around 95 million dirhams.
Moroccan craftsmanship has managed to seduce the Americans, who are by far the largest importers of Moroccan products. According to official figures from the Ministry of Tourism, Crafts and Social and Solidarity Economy, the United States accounts for 44% of the demanding markets, ahead of France (15%) and Arab countries (9%).
Moroccan handicraft products, particularly pottery, carpets, basketry and traditional clothing, account for 82% of total Moroccan product exports, while wooden items have seen a 140% jump. According to official data provided by the Ministry of Tourism, Crafts and Social and Solidarity Economy, Casablanca remains the main exit point for these products with 52%, followed by Marrakech (20%) and Fez (12%).
