Morocco’s Tourism Soars: 2.9 Million Visitors in Q1 2023, Up 17% from Pre-Pandemic Levels

Moroccan tourism has experienced a spectacular surge with the arrival of 2.9 million tourists at border posts during the first quarter of 2023, an increase of 17% compared to the same period in 2019.
These record figures are the result of an aggressive policy led by the Ministry of Tourism, Handicrafts and the Social and Solidarity Economy in 2022, jointly with the ONMT, with in particular actions in terms of promotion and development of air links.
The success of this policy is also reflected in the growth of the major source markets, namely Spain, the United Kingdom, Italy and the United States. These markets are showing increases of 45%, 28%, 9% and 5% respectively. To meet this strong demand, Morocco plans to open 35 new routes serving 8 Moroccan destinations as part of its 2023-2026 roadmap this summer.
