Marrakech’s Craft Exports Surge 41% in 2024, Setting New Record

Moroccan craftsmanship is doing well, especially in Marrakech. In 2024, the ochre city confirmed its position as the national leader in the sector by recording a record export volume.
According to figures from the regional directorate of crafts and social and solidarity economy Marrakech-Safi, the value of exported craft products exceeded 458 million dirhams. This figure represents a significant increase of 41% compared to 2023, when exports amounted to 325.14 million dirhams.
Several factors explain this performance. Demand for Moroccan crafts has increased significantly, particularly in the United States. Exports to this country have recorded an increase of more than 80%, placing the United States as the leading importer of Moroccan crafts. "The United States of America is the main destination for craft products, with a value of 187 million dirhams, or about 20% of total exports," specifies the regional directorate. Trade with Arab countries and Spain have also experienced strong growth of 61%.
Among the most sought-after products internationally are carpets, pottery, copper objects and wood. These four categories alone account for more than 60% of Marrakech’s craft exports. France, on the other hand, occupies the second place in the ranking of importing countries, with 9% of exports.
