Lacoste Apologizes for Controversial Morocco Map on Clothing Line

The case of the Lacoste polos displaying a truncated map of Morocco, excluding its southern provinces, has a new episode. The Minister of Industry and Trade, Ryad Mezzour, confirmed that the leaders of the famous French ready-to-wear brand have expressed their regrets about this controversial marketing.
A few months ago, Lacoste had sparked a lively controversy with the release of its new collection. Among the items offered, some polos featured a map of Morocco without its southern provinces.
Faced with the outrage caused in Morocco, the Ministry of Industry and Trade quickly reacted. Following a written question from the parliamentary group of the Party of Justice and Development (PJD) to the House of Representatives, Minister Mezzour assured that in-depth investigations had been carried out on the ground, both with the points of sale and the manufacturers in the textile sector.
It was thus established that the incriminated product had not been manufactured by a Moroccan company and had not been sold in the official sales outlets in Morocco.
In his response, the minister also stated that exchanges had taken place with the company’s managers in France, who expressed their regrets for this "unintentional incident".
The incriminated product has also been withdrawn from all official sales outlets worldwide.
