King Mohammed VI Praises Moroccan Diaspora, Calls for Greater Involvement in National Development

Sunday 21 August 2022, by Sylvanus

King Mohammed VI saluted the determination of Moroccans residing abroad (MREs) to defend Morocco’s interests, particularly the national causes related to their homeland and the Sahara, and invited them to get involved in the development process. The sovereign also called for the creation of a support mechanism for the Moroccan diaspora.

In his speech delivered on the occasion of the 69th anniversary of the Revolution of the King and the People on Saturday, the sovereign paid tribute to the five million Moroccans in the world as well as the hundreds of thousands of Moroccan Jews living abroad. "I take this opportunity to salute and assure of my esteem the members of the Moroccan community residing abroad who selflessly defend the territorial integrity of their country, by resonating the national cause on all the platforms accessible to them and thanks to the positions they occupy."

He also highlighted "the strength of the bond that unites them indefectibly to their homeland, their attachment to its sacred symbols and their determined commitment to defend its higher interests, whatever the problems and difficulties they face." The sovereign’s wish is for the MREs to get more involved in the development process. "In fact, the Moroccan community abroad is notoriously known for the world-class profiles it has in various fields: scientific, economic, political, cultural, sports and others. These resources are a source of pride for Morocco and for all Moroccans," said King Mohammed VI.

To concretize this wish, King Mohammed VI called for the creation of a dedicated mechanism whose mission will be to support Moroccan skills and talents abroad, to support their initiatives and projects. He also invited public institutions, the national finance and business sector to open up more to investors among the members of the community. "The time has come to provide this community with the necessary support as well as the means and conditions for it to give the best of itself, in the well-understood interest of its country and its development. Also, We emphasize the need to establish a structured and sustained relationship with Moroccan skills abroad, including Moroccan Jews," added the sovereign.
