Kenitra-Marrakech TGV: The project is moving at high speed

The National Railway Office (ONCF) is active for the project to extend the high-speed rail line connecting Kenitra to Marrakech.

The project to build the Kenitra-Marrakech LGV designed for a maximum speed of 350 km/h is progressing. Its planned extension at a speed of 320 km/h as well. The United Arab Emirates are financing part of this project which will be operational in 2025. Divided into five parts, the work includes the preparation of tracks and connections between different stations, notably Rabat, Casablanca, and Mohammed V airport, and will last 14 months. This project will offer 70 million working days and will create 3,700 permanent jobs during the preparation phase. The construction and renovation of several stations along the route, especially in Casa Sud, Mohammed V airport, the new Nouaceur terminal, the future Grand Stadium of Beslimane, and Marrakech Palmeraie, as well as the installation of a maintenance workshop at the Marrakech station, and storage areas planned between Rabat and Casablanca, as well as between Casablanca and Marrakech, are planned as part of the project. Not to mention the modernization of the remote control post in Rabat and the establishment of a second one in Casablanca or Marrakech.

Currently, the ONCF is looking for a service provider in charge of the environmental and social monitoring of the project, spread over approximately 431 kilometers. A consultation has been launched in this regard. This service provider, who will be paid 10.38 million dirhams, will be responsible for developing an environmental and social management plan, monitoring waste management, clearing, groundwater, and other aspects.

In addition to the Kenitra-Marrakech LGV construction project, the LGV Projects Department of the Office has recently launched a tender for the technical control of the studies and works related to the construction of the Hay Riad station. The latter will be a bridge station crossing the railway tracks and connecting the two banks, located between Annakhil and Hassan II avenues. The construction program of the future station includes the development of the passenger building, including equipment, as well as the creation of parking lots, platforms, outdoor spaces and commercial areas.
