K2 Black Panther armor manufacturer puts Morocco’s studied requirement at 400 tanks

The information appears in a investor presentation published on June 30, 2026, by Samyang Comtech. Focused on the K2’s international expansion, it lists Morocco among the main countries where exports are under discussion, alongside Poland, Romania, Iraq and Peru.

For the kingdom, the company mentions the “examination of the introduction of a maximum of 400 K2 tanks.” It links this prospect to the intensification of military competition with Algeria.

This figure had already been mentioned when Morocco began to evaluate an acquisition of the K2 Black Panther. This time, it appears in the commercial projections of a supplier directly integrated into the program.

Samyang Comtech attributes to Morocco a fleet comprising 200 Russian T-72s, 200 former American M48s and 300 M60s. These estimates, presented by the company and not by the Royal Armed Forces, are used to illustrate the potential for renewing Morocco’s armored vehicles.

Samyang Comtech increases production for future contracts

The document mentions neither a contract signed with Morocco nor a firm order for 400 tanks. It does, however, show that the kingdom is now included in the export prospects monitored by one of the K2’s strategic suppliers.

Samyang Comtech is simultaneously announcing a 30% increase in its production capacity. This is expected to rise from the equivalent of 120 tanks per year to more than 150 in the first half of 2026, notably thanks to the expansion of its third site in Gumi.

This expansion should enable the company to meet Polish orders, the development of the K2PL and the expected increase in demand for special armor for exported versions. Samyang Comtech supplies Hyundai Rotem with the composite protection intended for tanks in the K series.

Morocco had already expressed its interest in the K2 and several South Korean military systems. The novelty therefore does not lie in the figure of 400 tanks, but in its inclusion by a program supplier among the markets likely to fuel the K2’s next wave of exports.
