Joint Spain-Morocco Operation Dismantles ISIS-Linked Terror Cell in Nador and Melilla

A security operation jointly carried out by the Central Bureau of Judicial Investigations (BCIJ) and the General Intelligence Directorate of the Spanish National Police, led to the dismantling of a terrorist cell active in Nador and Melilla. It would have links with the Islamic State.
During the operation, two individuals were arrested in Nador and nine others were apprehended in Melilla, the BCIJ said in a statement. The searches carried out in the two cities led to the seizure of computer equipment in the form of mobile phones, SIM cards, a computer and digital media. This operation testifies to the determination of Morocco and Spain to fight terrorism and extremism, it is indicated.
According to the preliminary data of the ongoing investigation, the members of this terrorist cell intended to recruit young people for the benefit of terrorist organizations by disseminating speeches and digital content through computer systems or direct communication. The research and investigations carried out show that this terrorist cell would be closely linked to the one dismantled in December 2019 in the suburbs of Madrid and the city of Nador.
The two members of this terrorist cell arrested in Nador, aged 34 and 39, were placed in custody for the purposes of the ongoing investigation. The same goes for the suspects arrested in Melilla. The authorities at the level of the two countries are continuing the investigations in order to neutralize all the people involved in the activities of this terrorist cell.
