Jailed Moroccan Activist Nasser Zefzafi Granted Brief Release to Visit Ailing Mother

Sentenced in 2019 to 20 years in prison, the Rif activist, Nasser Zefzafi, left the Tanger 2 prison for the first time on Friday. The leader of the Hirak of the Rif was allowed to visit his mother, who is suffering from advanced stage cancer.
Transported in a prison van, under heavy surveillance, the detainee remained at his mother’s bedside for nearly 45 minutes, before being taken back to the local prison, reports the site Akhbarona.
The operation, which took place without incident, was an opportunity for Nasser Zefzafi to also meet his father, a former activist of the Union of Popular Forces.
Born on November 5, 1979 in Al Hoceima, Nasser Zefzafi was sentenced on April 4, 2019 to 20 years in prison, along with 41 other people. 7 months later, he symbolically announced the breaking of the bond of allegiance to King Mohammed VI, and the renunciation of Moroccan nationality.
