On its own, Morocco buys three times more American almonds than the rest of North Africa

The final figures published by the Almond Board of California show that 87.2 million pounds of almonds were shipped to Morocco between August 1, 2025, and July 31, 2026. That represents approximately 39,560 tonnes.

One year earlier, shipments to the Kingdom had reached 58.6 million pounds, or approximately 26,600 tonnes. Over twelve months, the Moroccan market therefore absorbed nearly 13,000 additional tonnes of American almonds, an exact increase of 48.7%.

Morocco absorbs three-quarters of North African volumes

This increase is all the more remarkable because American almond exports to all foreign markets grew by only 3% over the same period, rising from 1.975 to 2.034 billion pounds. Morocco is therefore advancing at a pace approximately sixteen times faster than that of the international market as a whole.

The Kingdom also outpaces the other North African markets by a wide margin. Shipments to Algeria amounted to 17.3 million pounds, those to Libya to 7.4 million, and those to Egypt to 2.7 million. Morocco alone thus accounts for nearly 76% of all American almonds shipped to North Africa during the campaign.

This acceleration extends an already long-standing trend. American almonds have gradually taken a dominant position in the Moroccan market, notably thanks to their competitiveness and the removal of customs barriers. The latest Californian figures show that this dependence on American supplies is now continuing to increase sharply.
