Morocco, the undisputed leader of European wheat

Morocco is consolidating its status as a strategic cereal partner for the 2025-2026 campaign. The Kingdom has risen to the top of the destinations for soft wheat from the European Union, with volumes showing a strong increase.

According to data from the customs monitoring system published by TAXUD, the Moroccan market has absorbed 2,635,298 tonnes of European soft wheat between early July 2025 and mid-March 2026. This volume represents 15.7% of the EU’s total exports for this product, marking a clear increase compared to the 1,930,227 tonnes shipped the previous year.

This dynamic is also observed for durum wheat, with European shipments to the Kingdom reaching 36,561 tonnes. The country thus captures 5.5% of these exports, compared to only 5,001 tonnes over the same period in 2024-2025.

In the opposite direction, the Maghreb market dominates the suppliers of Europe in durum wheat semolina. With 1,638 tonnes sold to the old continent, Morocco takes 56.3% of the shares of this European import market, a volume that has doubled in the space of a year.
