Israel Appoints David Govrin as First Ambassador to Morocco Since Diplomatic Normalization

David Govrin, temporary chargé d’affaires in Morocco, has now been appointed ambassador of Israel to Morocco by the appointments committee of the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The Hebrew state has thus transformed its liaison office into an embassy as announced during the historic visit of the Israeli Foreign Minister, Yaïr Lapir to Rabat.
The appointments committee of the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs has appointed on Sunday, October 10, the head of Israel’s liaison office as the country’s permanent ambassador to Morocco, reports The Times of Israel. The person concerned himself announced the news on his Twitter page. "I have the honor of sharing with my followers and friends around the world the news of my appointment as the official ambassador of the State of Israel to Morocco," announced David Govrin.

During the historic visit of Yaïr Lapid, the Israeli Minister of Foreign Affairs to Rabat, an agreement had been reached between Morocco and Israel to transform the liaison offices of the two countries into official embassies. "First of all, I would like to thank King Mohammed VI and the Minister of Foreign Affairs Nasser Bourita for the warm welcome we received. Following our visit to Morocco, we have decided, with the Moroccan Ministry of Foreign Affairs, to raise the level of diplomatic relations with the Kingdom and to transform the two liaison offices into two embassies within two months," said the head of Israeli diplomacy during a press conference in Casablanca.
He had also announced that his Moroccan counterpart Nasser Bourita would travel to Israel in October or early November to open the Moroccan embassy in Tel Aviv.
