Israel Backs Morocco in Western Sahara Dispute, Calls for Direct Talks

David Govrin, Israel’s ambassador to Morocco, expressed his country’s support for "direct negotiations" between the parties to the Sahara conflict. A conflict that has pitted the kingdom against the independence movement, the Polisario, since 1975.
In an interview with the Spanish agency EFE, the Israeli diplomat stated that Israel supports "direct negotiations" between the parties to the conflict that can lead to a "peaceful solution". David Govrin also discussed the fallout from the normalization of relations between Morocco and his country. He highlighted two flagship actions: the inauguration of direct flights between Israel and the kingdom last August and the agreement signed between the Israeli company ICL and the Moroccan Phosphates Office (OCP).
The Israeli diplomat hailed Morocco as a "model of coexistence and tolerance between Jews and Muslims".
