Interpol Fugitive Captured in Morocco: Spanish National Wanted for Murder and Prison Break

Saturday 30 March 2019, by Said

The Moroccan police have just announced the arrest of a "dangerous" Spanish national under an international arrest warrant for multiple criminal cases.

In a statement, the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN) indicates that it has put an end to the escape of this man sentenced in his country to 58 years in prison for "premeditated homicide, kidnapping, sequestration and escape from a penitentiary institution".

The latter had escaped in November last year "during his transfer from a penitentiary institution in Madrid to the hospital, using violence against the civil guard elements in charge of the transfer operation" and has since been wanted by the Spanish authorities who have issued an international search notice via Interpol.

Nicknamed "El Ruso", "El Rober", he had managed to enter Morocco using a passport under a false identity before being located in Tetouan, the DGSN specifies, which is pleased with the cooperation between the two police services "in the fight against all forms of transnational organized crime".

The man was placed in custody and will be brought before the justice system, which will have to rule on his possible extradition to his country of origin.
