Interior Ministry Cracks Down on Covid-19 Charity Fraud Schemes

The Ministry of the Interior is after unscrupulous individuals who are taking advantage of the Covid-19 crisis to collect humanitarian aid.
According to the daily Assabah, these embezzlement practices would be the work of certain charitable associations that broadcast announcements to collect donations on social networks or directly contact companies to solicit their support, thanks to forged invoices.
These associations have several bank accounts to manipulate the invoices of the collected aid, the newspaper specifies.
According to the same daily, the officials of the Ministry of the Interior have been alerted by these calls for public generosity and these donations broadcast on social networks. They have also asked the walis and governors to closely monitor these collection operations and to verify whether the people in charge have authorizations.
For the ministry, any action should conform to the legal framework and any operation must be supervised and organized by the competent authorities in order to block the way for the mafia of humanitarian aid.
